ADHD and hormones

ADHD in women is still widely under-recognised, and it does not stay the same all month or across life stages. Oestrogen helps regulate dopamine, serotonin and other brain chemicals involved in focus, mood and memory, so as oestrogen rises and falls, ADHD symptoms can too.

Many people notice focus, impulsivity or emotional regulation get harder in the days before a period, after having a baby, and through perimenopause. ADHD is also linked to a higher rate of PMDD. Research on menopause is still limited, so this is an honest, developing picture, not a settled one.

Why a record helps

Because symptoms can shift with your cycle, a record shows patterns that are easy to miss day to day. It also gives you something concrete to bring to a doctor, rather than relying on how you feel on the day.

What you can record in The Veda Circle

  • Focus today, and how easy it was to get started on tasks
  • How big your feelings were, and any restlessness or racing mind
  • Whether you took your ADHD medication, if prescribed, and how it felt: worked well, wore off early, little effect, side effects or not sure
  • Whether the day felt harder because of where you are in your cycle or life stage
  • Anything you want to remember, such as what helped and what made it harder

Taking it to your appointment

The doctor-ready report is built from your own entries for the dates you choose. Share it, print it or save it as a PDF.

When to get help

If a medication or hormonal treatment, including contraception, seems to be affecting your mood or focus, it is worth raising with whoever prescribed it. Your own experience is real information, not something to push through alone. If you have thoughts of harming yourself, please tell someone today. If you are in danger or need urgent help, call your local emergency number: 112 in Malta and across the EU, or 999 in the UK.

Common questions

Can ADHD symptoms change with my cycle?

They can. Many people notice focus and emotional regulation get harder in the days before a period, because hormone levels change across the cycle.

Can The Veda Circle diagnose ADHD?

No. It helps you keep a clear record and prepare for your appointment. Diagnosis and treatment are for your doctor.

Can I record my ADHD medication?

Yes, if you are prescribed it. You can note whether you took it and how it felt. Decisions about medication are for you and your prescriber.

Is my data private?

Yes. Your entries are saved on your phone. We never receive them, so we cannot read, sell or share them.
